The world is plunged into catastrophe, and the bodies still living in it find themselves at the edge of their endurance. Abertura is a way out of this world. A transition. A process of dying. An extraordinary contact with something resembling death. Information received through movement, the spoken word and presence. A possibility of leaving the body and everything that affects it. A fall into the abyss. A leap of faith. Here, Richard Mascherin carries his research into physical and emotional falling into a collective dimension and crosses it with references drawn from science fiction. Movement, word, music and presence build the story of a community facing emptiness and seeking a way out. A work about catastrophe, but also about the possibility of moving through it.

Abertura was presented in 2025 at the Festival Internacional Madrid en Danza and premiered in the Sala Sinfónica of the Auditorio de Tenerife as part of the Festival de las Artes del Movimiento (FAM). The Fundación Antonio Gades is among its collaborating institutions.

Richard Mascherin

Richard Mascherin is a Canarian director, choreographer and dancer, born in Venezuela in 1992 and raised in Tenerife. He trained in Contemporary Dance at the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza Mariemma in Madrid and studied Film Direction, a discipline that remains clearly present in his stage work.

In pieces such as Vacío espiritual, He aquí un acto romántico and Abertura, he has developed an ongoing investigation into falling, understood both as a physical action and an emotional state. His work combines dance, visual composition and cinematic references, and has been presented at festivals in Spain and abroad.
