Between 1874 and 1879, the construction of the Dique de la Campana in Ferrol was executed. There, a total of 200 women removed 245,000 cubic meters of earth and stone, transporting them in 58,000 baskets \u2014each carried on their heads. They were known as \u201clas estibadoras\u201d (the dockworkers). Yet, for the same labor, they were paid less than men. On the 150th anniversary of the start of its construction, Nova Galega de Danza invited stage director Marta Pazos to create a tribute to this remarkable feat. Dique brings contemporary and traditional Galician dance into dialogue, creating a conversation that connects past and present. Nova Galega de Danza<\/strong><\/p>\n

A company that blends Galician-rooted dance and music live on stage, fusing tradition and avant-garde with a universal outlook. Throughout its years of work, the company has opened a new path for dance in Galicia\u2014one capable of approaching tradition from a contemporary perspective, allowing it to transcend the \u201ctraditional\u201d experience of folklore and give it new meaning. Along this path, Nova Galega de Danza aligns itself with and contributes to the rich legacy already established by Galician folk music, under the direction of Jaime Pablo D\u00edaz.<\/p>\n
